Hernon Carriage Tours provide private and shared morning and evening tours with an itinerary designed to allow you to visit the most popular sites on the island. The tour itinerary can be customised based on your requirements. Tour pick-up points are normally from the ferry dock but pick-up from accommodation can be arranged on request.
The Shared tour is a more economical option and allows you to share the carriage with other tourists. A great opportunity to meet other holiday makers and travellers alike, this tour also takes you on a round trip of the island with the same itinerary as the private morning and evening tours except for the visit to the worm hole due to some people travelling back on the earlier ferry.
The private morning and evening experience takes us on a round trip tour of the island, with the same itinerary as the morning tour. There is a certain magic to the island in the evening and this tour feels quite special, giving you the chance to see the island in a different light.
This is a beautiful tour of the island where you can sit back, relax, and absorb the stunning scenery while your Jarvey explains the history of the island to you. We travel along the Coast Road and along the High Road where most islanders live.
Hernon Carriage Tours are a family run business providing horse and carriage tours on the island of Inis Mor. Started by island native Tom Hernon over seventy years ago, the business is still going strong, with grandson Martin at the helm and Toms son Padraig still driving every day (Padraig is the oldest Jarvey on the island!). You can rest assured that you won’t find more experienced Jarveys to give you an authentic tour of the island and if you’re lucky, Martin will even sing you a song!
Over the past two years we have added two new carriages and six new horses to our business. Our carriages are very comfortable with rain cover that can easily be removed when the sun comes out. Our biggest carriage carries a maximum of 11 adults and is pulled by a pair of horses, while our smaller carriages carry up to eight people. We can cater for large groups of up to 24 people.
Our nine horses are our pride and joy and the success of our business depends heavily on them. The horses work in rotation to ensure they have adequate rest and recovery time between drives. Please be assured that their care and welfare are our highest priority. Also, please feel free to give them rubs and scratches!
